DIY Name Sweaters: BEST Places to Get Chunky Knit Sweaters for Embroidery
Share
Embroidering knit sweaters has become a popular craft and special keepsake for babies the last couple of years. You’ve probably seen a few embroidered sweaters show up on your For You Page or maybe your friends are posting their newborn announcement photos with the special chunky knits.
You might be thinking “I want to make that!” and if that’s you, you are in the right place!
Last year, I launched my DIY NAME SWEATER KITS that include personalized water soluble stencils to help people make sweaters without having to hand draw names. The Kit includes a detailed PDF tutorial, a name stencil, yarn, and a needle. If you want the individual links to items I use, you can visit my full supplies blog here.
Once you have gathered up all of your supplies, it’s time to find a sweater! Even if this isn’t your first rodeo with embroidering sweaters, it can still be difficult to find quality sweater at a decent price.
I have compiled some of my favorite sweaters for babies, toddlers, older kids, and even adults all in this one blog for you.
As a side note: Other places I like to look for knit sweaters are thrift stores! If you are down for the chase, consider checking out your local thrift spots!
AMAZON SWEATERS
Amazon is usually my go-to place for blank knit sweaters. It’s hard to beat the reliability and ease of this option. Amazon has relatively cheap sweaters and the quality is mostly consistent. I have had a few sweaters come with uneven stitching before, but 98% of the sweaters I have ordered have been good quality.
Another benefit of Amazon is that listings are almost always in stock. I, personally, love to support smaller shops and I will list those options below, but the smaller shops often sell out quickly so Amazon is usually my most reliable place to get sweaters in a pinch!
Afunbaby Knit Oversized Sweater (AMAZON)
Karwuiio Toddler Baby Sweater (AMAZON)
FYBITBO Knit Oversized Baby Sweater (AMAZON)
Curipeer Girls Lace Up Knit Sweater (AMAZON)
Haloumoning Girls Sweater 5-14 Years (AMAZON)
PRETTYGARDEN Women’s Fall Sweater (AMAZON)
Amarmia Women’s Sleeveless Knit Sweater (AMAZON)
FAIRE (WHOLESALE)
If you want to purchase sweaters in bulk, Faire is a website that connects you directly to wholesale sellers. This is a fantastic option if you will be selling embroidered sweaters and want to purchase in a bundle, because often times sellers have a shop minimum that you must spend to order. However, some shops sell with a minimum as low as $35 so it’s still worth checking out if you aren’t purchasing in bulk. Biggest consideration: You must have a brick-and-mortar or online shop to purchase on Faire.

TARGET SWEATERS
Target is great for seasonal finds. I will link a few sweaters that are currently available online, but Target doesn’t keep their sweater inventory stocked after a few months typically. I recommend checking your local Target all year long because they often put their sweaters on clearance and you can find some great deals!
Baby Button-Front Cardigan – Cat & Jack™ (Target)
Stellou & Friends Cable Knit Children 0-6 Sweater (Target)
Goumi Baby Organic Chunky Knit Sweater (Target)
KHOLS SWEATERS
Khols is also great for seasonal finds for adults. Once again, Khols doesn’t keep their sweater inventory stocked after a few months typically. I recommend checking your local Khols all year long because they often put their sweaters on clearance and you can find some great deals!
OLD NAVY SWEATERS
Old Navy is a hidden gem for small baby sweaters. This sweater has been in stock for over a year now and I’ve seen a lot of people pair it with their cute knit bloomers linked here.
TEMU SWEATERS
I don’t personally shop on TEMU so I can’t vouch for this option. However, a lot of my customers do like to purchase sweaters from here so I am including this option.
OTHER SHOPS TO CHECK:
Here are other smaller shops and places that I have found amazing deals on chunky knit sweaters! If you enjoy a hunt and I like shopping smaller businesses, this can be a great option for one-off projects.
